Dan and Mae Hitchcock

A mural of rock and roll guitar legend Jimi Hendrix, painted above a music store where Hendrixs father bought his sons first electric guitar, was unveiled in Seattle.

Al Hendrix, the late guitarist father, was among those attending a ceremony to dedicate the 5 1/2 meter by 12 meter, black and white mural.

Hed have thought, This was great, Al Hendrix said of his son, who died in 1970, aged 27, of drug-related complications.

The mural, painted by Dan and Mae Hitchcock of Seattle, depicts Hendrix from the neck up, surrounded by stars.

This project was straight from the heart. Dan Hitchcock said.

Al Hendrix said he decided to buy his son an electric guitar in 1959.

Hed practiced on a acoustic guitar, Hendrix said, When he learned to play that, I got him an electric guitar

Jimi Hendrix formed the Jimi Hendrix Experience with bassist Noel Redding and drummer Mitch Mitchell. It was the band that brought the innovative guitarist international fame.
